Eucharist

“Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ? Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread.” (1 Corinthians 10:16-17)

Christ, during the Last Supper took bread, blessed it, broke it and gave it to his disciples and told them to eat of His Body. He gave a similar blessing and command with a chalice filled with wine which He turned into His Precious Blood. Now at Mass through the words of consecration by the Priest, the bread and wine become the very Body and Blood of Christ. Food and drink nourish our bodies ‒ Christ’s body and blood nourishes us spiritually.
